23 is a considerable amount of flavors to have in a soft drink, but someone was determined to create something unique.
It’s interesting to note that 23 different sodas can be made from all the flavors in Dr Pepper. But it’s doubtful that any of the sodas will have the sweet and peppery taste that Dr Pepper is famous for.
Dr Pepper is a carbonated soft drink created by Charles Alderton, a Texas pharmacist, in 1885. It was also founded in the same city in Texas 50 years later says something about the Texans: They love their drinks sweet and unique!
Dr Pepper is one of the oldest soft drink brands in the US, created a year before Coca-cola, and eight years before Pepsi. The soft drink’s long-lasting stay in the soft drink industry is attributed to great management, quality production, versatility, and excellent marketing strategies.
While there is no detailed recipe yet, It is widely believed that the amount of flavors in Dr Pepper is 23, and Dr. Pepper propagates this belief with a line on their website “A signature blend of 23 flavors makes every sip of Dr Pepper truly unique.”
The story goes that Mr. Alderton, observing customers’ positive reactions to the smell of the soda fountain in the drugstore where he worked, recreated the smell and flavor in a drink using 23 flavors.
Well, I hope the soda fountain is being paid royalties because Mr. Alderton’s recreation is now sold in many countries worldwide, including Mexico, the United Kingdom, Austria, the Netherlands, Russia, Japan, and Indonesia, among several other countries.
But what exactly are the 23 flavors in Dr Pepper?

The list of flavors in Dr Pepper is believed to be divided into two and locked in separate safes in Texas so that it is inaccessible and remains a top secret. However, the following are believed to make up the unique taste of Dr. Pepper:

What Other Flavor Varieties does Dr. Pepper make?
Dr Pepper makes several other flavor varieties under its brand.
Some early varieties include the soda fountain classics line of drinks with two unique flavors: cherry vanilla flavor, produced in 2004, and berries and cream flavor, produced in 2006. The cherry and vanilla flavor tastes like regular soda, with additional cherry and vanilla taste. It also comes in a diet form.
While the berries and cream soda flavor was available in 2006 in regular and diet form, it was shortly cut off from sales in 2007 due to poor sales. The next flavor to be created by the soft drink brand was the diet chocolate cherry flavor in 2007, but that too was cut off in 2008.
Dr. Pepper cherry adds a strong cherry flavor to the regular soda. It started production in early 2009 and is available as a flavor variant in coca cola freestyle machines. The cherry flavor has a zero sugar version.
Dr Pepper zero began distribution in 2013. This beverage has no sugar with decreased calories. Dr Pepper cream soda started sales in 2020 and is the cream soda flavor of the regular soda. This cream soda also has a zero sugar version.
Other flavor varieties of the sweet and peppery soda include caffeine-free (in regular and diet forms) and “made with real sugar” varieties. Some other flavors, such as the dark berry, heritage and the vanilla float Dr. Pepper were around for a short while but had to be pulled back in for some reason. There are the UK and German variations of the soft drink.
Dr Pepper 355 ml cans contain 150 calories and have a 2% sodium content. Added sugars make up about 13% of the content. Bottling plants producing the soda use high fructose corn syrup instead of sugar as a sweetener.
