Stubborn soda is definitely one soda you don’t want your kids drinking. How do you explain to them that when PepsiCo says ‘it’s good to be stubborn,” they don’t mean kids should stay up late or refuse to clean up?
Craft sodas are usually produced in small quantities using all-natural ingredients and sold locally.
In some cases, big corporations discover the local soda and distribute it. Fritz kola is an example of a craft soda brand that started locally but is now distributed across Europe.
In 2013, Craft sodas had become trendy in many countries, including the US.
With an increasing market share estimated to reach $5.3bn by 2023 (in food service alone), it was only a matter of time before the big companies jumped into the craft soda wagon.
PepsiCo leaped into the wagon in 2014 with Caleb’s Kola, made with cane sugar, a unique blend of spices, and a kola nut extract.
1893 Cola, named with reference to the year that Pepsi was invented, was produced by the company in April 2015 with original and ginger cola.
None of the earlier craft sodas created by the company received as much publicity as stubborn soda.
Created in five different varieties (now eight), stubborn soda was a more significant investment and launched the company properly into the emerging craft soda industry.
So what is Stubborn Soda? Let’s dive in to find out!
What is Stubborn Craft Soda?
Stubborn soda is a premium craft soda manufactured using natural flavors, and Fair Trade Certified cane sugar. The soda has no artificial sweeteners or colors and no high fructose corn syrup.
It was created by PepsiCo in 2015 and was sold in select food service locations on soda fountains until its launch in major retail stores nationwide in August 2016.
With the tagline “it’s good to be stubborn,” the beverage comes in eight unusual traditional flavors, including a zero sugar version of the draft cola flavor.
During its launch, the marketing director said the carbonated soft drink is named that way because there is no compromise on the ingredients, flavor, or how customers experience the product.
For most people, the soda smells as good as it tastes.
While some people prefer purchasing a canned version of the soda to buying from the fountain because, as they claim, it tastes better.
The canned soda only offers three flavors as opposed to the eight flavors sold on the fountain.
The soft drink was initially sold in retail stores nationwide after its launch, but sales in stores ended after 2019 as PepsiCo decided to focus on food service and e-commerce.
Now, it is found at small restaurant chains and a few large ones such as Jersey Mike’s Subs.
